Introduction
Though Sentinel was established in 2017, this was the year project was truly born. The events, innovations, and developments within Sentinel over the course of 2024 have eclipsed anything else that longtime community members and contributors have experienced while following the project.
During the past twelve months, Sentinel blossomed into a peer-to-peer global bandwidth marketplace with:
- An arsenal of nine (and counting) dVPN applications.
- An entirely new AI-focused protocol.
- A revitalized DePIN narrative and much broader ambitions.
- Entire teams of talented new contributors.
- New utilities to make participating in the network easier than ever before.
- Greater media and social media presence.
- New advanced features and backend systems enhancing the experience and security of app users and network contributors.
And most importantly, levels of mainstream consumer adoption which are all but unheard of for blockchain-based services and applications.
This winding list of successes may come off as a bit hyperbolic; but if you keep reading, you'll soon see that it's perfectly apt, and possibly even downplaying Sentinel's ascension this year.
Timeline
The entire year, event-by-event.
January

The core development team announces that they will be creating a new protocol which will provide utility to AI developers. This was the first public mention of the protocol that would later become Sentinel Scout.
To many, this officially marked the beginning of the project's transition from a singular dVPN focus to becoming a peer-to-peer bandwidth marketplace with a range of usecases.
dVPN News is established by the Sentinel Growth DAO and Sentinel Independent News.
Meile dVPN crosses ten thousand aggregate downloads across its supported platforms.
