• dVPN by NORSE is a standalone Sentinel-powered dVPN client which has just been released for Android.
• The app provides free dVPN access, with an optional premium tier which unlocks access to all server locations.
• An iOS release is imminent. Windows, Mac, Linux, and more will follow.
DVPN, also known as dVPN by NORSE, is now available to download and use on Android devices via the Google Play and Samsung Galaxy stores.
The new dVPN client's launch process was kicked off today with an announcement by its developers, NORSE Labs:
Features & Background
dVPN by NORSE was first officially announced in July of this year. By mid-November, it was completed and submitted to app stores.
Although the application was approved by Google Play two days ago, the official launch was delayed until today. Members of the official Sentinel Telegram group were given exclusive access to the app for almost forty-eight hours, providing the developers with valuable last-minute feedback on its performance.
dVPN by NORSE joins the other products that the Russo-Estonian company has released since the summer, which include:
- An in-app dVPN Bot for Telegram.
- The NORSE QuickClient software which powers it.
- A dVPN developer kit (SDK) for iOS.
As a standalone client, dVPN by NORSE offers a more straightforward dVPN experience to its subscribers than those aforementioned products. Calling it user-friendly could be considered an understatement—the app's intuitive frontend is practically indistinguishable from centralized competitors such as NordVPN or Mullvad.
This app is a successor of sorts to SOLAR dVPN, which was sunsetted during the latter half of 2024 after SOLAR Labs was reconstituted as NORSE Labs. SOLAR dVPN was best-known for its stint as the Sentinel Ecosystem's officially-designated flagship application in 2022.
Planned Features
In the original NORSE Labs announcement of the app earlier this year, the company revealed some features they plan to add in subsequent updates:
- Split-tunneling, which will allow users to define which apps on their device have their internet protected by the dVPN.
- Double VPN, also known as multi-hop, which will secure connections even further.
- Integration with Tor, a renowned peer-to-peer network overlay which has been protecting the anonymity of internet users since 2002.
Platforms & Versions
Versions of the client are planned for iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux; and a plethora of other Apple-manufactured platforms ranging from Apple TV to Apple Vision Pro.
The iOS launch appears to be imminent (pending store approval), but no timeframe for the other platforms has been provided as of yet.
Subscriptions
dVPN by NORSE operates on a freemium model of monetization—meaning the application is free to use, but expanded features (such as additional server locations) require purchase of a paid subscription.
Getting connected in the app is as simple as installing, pressing Connect, and choosing your preferred server location.
