Aleksandr Litreev Appointed CEO of Sentinel
The Sentinel Foundation has appointed NORSE's Aleksandr Litreev as the project's first CEO.

In a move that took most of the community completely by surprise, the Sentinel Foundation announced yesterday that NORSE Labs head Aleksandr Litreev has been named CEO of the project—a role which has never previously existed in the project's eight-year history.
Official Announcement

Transforming Sentinel into the Layer-1 for Decentralized Bandwidth, Privacy, and AI Infrastructure
The Sentinel Network—known for pioneering decentralized VPN (dVPN) technology and building a peer-to-peer bandwidth node marketplace — is entering a new chapter. While Sentinel has always operated as a decentralized ecosystem without a single public-facing leading figurehead, the time has come for a unified voice to guide its next phase. Aleksandr Litreev, long-time core contributor and privacy advocate, is stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer to provide that leadership. Under his direction, Sentinel will solidify its position as the leading Layer-1 platform for decentralized bandwidth infrastructure and AI data services in Web3.
Aleksandr Litreev, founder and current CEO of NORSE Labs—one of Sentinel's core contributing development teams—brings a combination of technical expertise, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to digital freedom. His journey from a political exile and former Russian prisoner to an outspoken free speech and anti-censorship advocate has made him a prominent figure in the fight for internet freedom worldwide, something that resonates profoundly with Sentinel's ethos.
Under his leadership, Norse Labs has driven innovation in decentralized VPN and cybersecurity, uniquely positioning him to guide Sentinel as it evolves into a leading Layer-1 for decentralized bandwidth, privacy, and AI infrastructure.
Litreev’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture as Sentinel expands its original mission beyond decentralized VPNs into an infrastructure layer supporting privacy-centric AI data scraping, harnessing the power of decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN).
A New Era for the Sentinel Network
Under Litreev's leadership, Sentinel will shift its strategic focus onto three critical areas.
Product: Sentinel will continue developing its Cosmos-based blockchain infrastructure, providing easy-to-use SDKs and robust tools to empower developers, organizations, and everyday users to build, contribute, and benefit from the suite of next-generation privacy-focused applications Sentinel provides.
Revenue Growth: Accelerating Sentinel's transition from primarily free services to sustainable, revenue-generating products. Initiatives include segregated subscription plans, enhanced node reliability, and expanded global reach.
$DVPN Utility: Litreev plans to increase utility and demand for the native $DVPN coin through innovative economic models and incentivized infrastructure development through continued collaboration with existing stakeholders.
Litreev stated: "The Cosmos ecosystem is entering a new growth phase, bringing renewed momentum to the entire ATOM-aligned community. At Sentinel, we are fully engaged in this evolution, channeling our efforts toward the next major milestone: driving mass adoption of our decentralized services. Over the past several years, we’ve laid a robust foundation for the Web3 revolution in the VPN sector. Today, the tangible results of our work are reaching a broader audience, including users with no prior exposure to blockchain technology."
Technical Leadership and Community-Driven Approach
Sentinel’s technical architecture, built as a Cosmos-native Layer-1 blockchain, provides unmatched privacy guarantees and performance:
Decentralized Bandwidth Marketplace: A global, censorship-resistant network where users securely buy and sell bandwidth.
AI Data Layer: Leveraging the existing Sentinel Node Network, comprising over 5,000 nodes, Sentinel provides a decentralized, robust infrastructure for AI data scraping and training large language models (LLMs) without compromising individual privacy.
Interoperable and Scalable: Using Cosmos SDK and Tendermint consensus, Sentinel ensures fast, secure transactions and seamless user interoperability.
Sentinel’s Community Ecosystem
Sentinel boasts a thriving community of developers, partners, and users worldwide, with nearly one million organic users benefiting from its VPN services. Litreev’s leadership will further energize community-driven collaboration, strengthening Sentinel’s position as a user-centric, innovation-driven Layer 1.
A Future Built on Freedom and Privacy
With Aleksandr Litreev at the helm, Sentinel reaffirms its commitment to digital sovereignty, privacy, and secure global connectivity. This new leadership marks the beginning of an exciting chapter where Sentinel is poised to redefine decentralized infrastructure and become the definitive home for privacy-first bandwidth and AI services.
Sentinel continues to offer a robust SDK and incentivized participation for developers and users. Litreev concludes, “Our vision remains simple: an open, private, and unstoppable internet, that no one can censor and where anyone can benefit from.”

Litreev and his dramatic origin story were profiled by dVPN News last month.
In the hours since the appointment was announced, we've learned some more crucial details about the roles and responsibilities this newly-created CEO role at Sentinel will entail; as well as clarification about the status of the existing project leadership.
For background, Sentinel has been helmed by the members of the Sentinel Foundation since the project's inception in 2017. It is comprised of Sentinel's founders and original developers, and was formally established in 2021 when the project launched its Cosmos-based mainnet blockchain.
Status of Existing Team
The Sentinel Foundation, which includes the project's founders, will serve as a "board of directors." None of Sentinel's core leadership has left or changed status. In other words, this appointment is an addition to the leadership of Sentinel and its business capabilities, not a replacement of anything, anybody, or any existing leadership structure.
The CEO Role
As CEO, Litreev will become Sentinel's primary public figure. Members of the Sentinel Foundation are pseudonymous (only known by online handles and are not public figures).
As an established public figure with a track record of public appearances and advocacy, Litreev will be able to represent the project in an official capacity in venues such as television, news articles, and conferences. This will include a role in forging enterprise partnerships and onboarding new developers.
Litreev will also be leading Sentinel's drive for mass consumer adoption and making inroads with web 2.0 (non-crypto) consumers, something NORSE Labs has shown an undeniable knack for.
